International cultural project BUTTERBROT is participating for the second time in the festival “48 Stunden Neukölln” and proudly presents, from 17th to 19th June, an exhibition wich main topic will be “pleasure”.

With this topic, the curators Aleksandra Yurieva-Civjane and Alexandra Goloborodko explore with the help of their artists the beautiful dichotomy between a very pleasant feeling and a it’s delicate reputation. Naive emotions such as joy or satisfaction are confronted with ambivalent perceptions of enjoyment or lust. To which side tends pleasure in the tension between good and evil, and which circumstances accompany which perception?

Pleasure has always been an integral part of artistic engagement, such as in Hedonism of Greek antiquity. But even in recurrent decadence-currents, where the criticism on decline is oriented to more agreeable fundamental social conditions, it plays a central role. Pleasure appears in numerous aesthetic discourses on the nature of art, that is itself often regarded as pure pleasure.

BUTTERBROT invites young international artists to engage with the issue in their own unique perspective and using different art forms and media. Accompanied by a varied, enjoyable cultural program, the exhibition is especially intented to encourage an intensive exchange between artists and visitors.
